Sebastian Ofner and Dominic Thiem had no reason to be happy on Monday
After the end of last year’s finalist Filip Misolic, the Austrian tennis fans had no reason to celebrate at the Generali Open in Kitzbühel on Monday in the final match of the day: the two local heroes Dominic Thiem and Sebastian Ofner lost in the first round of the doubles competition in the evening.
Thiem/Ofner lost to the two Argentinians Guido Andreozzi and Guillermo Duran 6: 4, 6: 7 (5) and 7:10. In the second set, the red-white-red duo had already served to win the match. Andreozzi/Duran now meet Sadio Doumbia/Fabien Reboul or Albano Olivetti/David Vega Hernandez in the quarter-finals.
In singles, things will get serious for Thiem for the first time on Tuesday. The 2020 US Open winner will face Facundo Bagnis in the match of the day no earlier than 7:30 p.m. After a walk-through at the beginning, Ofner, who was placed third, will not have to face Slovakian Alex Molcan until Wednesday at the earliest.
