The Ups and Downs of Auger-Aliassime’s 2023 Season: Disappointing Results and Struggles at Wimbledon

The season has been anything but successful for Auger-Aliassime so far. The 22-year-old only reached a semi-final once in 2023 (ATP Doha). 13 victories face eleven defeats in the calendar year.

Mmoh now meets the German qualifier Maximilian Marterer, who defeated the Croatian Borna Gojo in four sets (7:5, 6:7 (8:10), 6:3, 6:4).

Meanwhile, on his return to Wimbledon, Andrey Rublev reached the second round without much trouble. The 25-year-old, who was unable to take part in the All England Championships last year due to a ban on Russian and Belarusian players, beat Australia’s Max Purcell in three sets 6-3, 7-5, 6-4. Now his compatriot Aslan Karatsev is waiting.

French Open finalist Casper Ruud also lost a set at the start, but beat Frenchman Laurent Lokoli in four rounds 6: 1, 5: 7, 6: 4, 6: 3.

Also in the second round is the Pole Hubert Hurkacz, who didn’t give the Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas a chance 6:1, 6:4, 6:4.

Jannik Sinner also played his match on Center Court late in the evening in a similarly confident manner. In the end it was 6: 2, 6: 2, 6: 2 against the Argentinian Juan Manuel Cerundolo. With Diego Schwartzman, a former top ten player is now waiting for the 21-year-old Sinner.
