The Sestao River begins to prepare the “hard and exciting” First Federation

Sestao River has already set to work to get to the best of “a very tough league, but a very exciting season”, as its president, Ángel Castro, calls the challenge that the First Federation will pose for them. The green and black team has taken what could be considered the greatest leap that currently exists between categories and now they have to arm themselves to be able to compete against authentic ocean liners, such as Deportivo de la Coruña.

Waiting for the calendar of this competition to be announced on Wednesday, which will kick off on the weekend of August 26 and 27, the club from the Left Bank began its preseason this Monday, which it will complete with a total of six friendlies against Basque teams. Unlike other years, this first day in Las Llanas under the command of Aitor Calle did not serve as a presentation of the squad, which still lacks many troops.

A total of 14 players from the first team and two players from the reserve team, such as Asier del Río -extreme- and Guillermo Díaz -midfielder- completed this first session, which will be joined by the reserve goalkeeper, Javi Moreno, this coming Wednesday. Although the figure is lower than in previous seasons, Roberto Sáez, sports director, expected there to be even fewer. “I’m even surprised at how fast I’m going, in fact, I’m slowing myself down when it comes to signing up because the phone starts to ring more and more as time goes by,” he told EL CORREO.

Despite already having “very advanced things”, the Mirandés points out that “hurries are not good advisers” and anticipates that they will take their time to complete the squad. “The demands of the players are falling more and more and, in some cases, we will have to wait,” he says. Also, his idea is that “there are 22 competitive players in the locker room”, so he glimpses that “there will be no great salary differences between the players.” He seeks balance and competitiveness.

In addition to the seven players who continue from last year -Markel Etxeberria, Gaizka Martínez, Álvaro Mateo, Gorka Garai, Kepa Uriarte, Aitor Aranzabe and Leandro Martínez-, the sports director has managed to make another seven signings. Unai Ruiz-Zeberio -goalkeeper from CD Vitoria-, Adrián León -central defender from La Nucía-, Mario Camero -central defender on loan from Real Madrid-, Álvaro Gete -defensive midfielder from Rayo Cantabria-, Jon Cabo -winger from Bilbao Athletic-, Ibai Sanz -forward on loan from Bilbao Athletic- and El Hadji Ndiaga -will be on trial after playing for Derio-.

Most of the new additions are young and versatile footballers. Camero (2004), Gete (2001), Uriarte (2002) and Sanz (2003) would occupy four sub-23 chips. While the idea with Ndiaga (2001) is that “if he stays, he would have a record of the subsidiary and could be player 23”. Same case as San Clemenete last season. Likewise, several can play in various positions, such as Camero -central defense and right back- or Adrián León -central defense and defensive midfielder-, for example.

“Major leap” in the economic

To have reached this point, the Sestao River has had to strengthen itself economically. “We have been looking for new sponsorships and improving the economic aspect since April, which we were already looking at the promotion, so they have been intense and complicated months,” reveals Ángel Castro. The numbers will be announced in the assembly on Wednesday, but the budget will be close to the 1.3 million that were set as a goal. “We always want more, but we have done a great job, we have made an important leap in terms of sponsorships and we are happy”, the president congratulated himself. Regarding the aid desired by the City Council, he indicates that “the government team has not yet been formed, we are working on it, but there is a good predisposition and we believe that there will be no problem.”
