The 2023 World Cup jerseys in pictures

As usual, the national teams announce one after the other the new jersey they will wear during the World Cup in France (from September 8 to October 28). Here they are, in pictures.

France

The Blues will play in a white-white-red kit, as in 2019, but for the first time since 2020, with the last three kits favoring an all-blue style. Le Coq sportif, equipment supplier to the Blues, bet on a dark blue, “that of our flag” specifies the brand.

New Zealand

Adidas also surprised when it unveiled the Blacks jersey, adding a collar to the tunic that will be worn by Sam Cane and his teammates. Also, ferns, one of the country’s symbols, are featured on the shirt, which didn’t sit well with everyone in New Zealand.

Italy

For the all-blue outfit worn during the Sixth Nations Tournament, the Italians have substituted white shorts, of course accompanied by a blue jersey, crossed by laurel wreaths and decorated with a collar. Also found on the back of the tunic is a stylized image of the she-wolf and of Romulus and Remus, considered in the myth as the founders of Rome.

Uruguay

“Los Teros” will wear a sky blue jersey, on which we can see the “Sol de Mayo”, the sun of May, fruit of the Inca heritage of the country. A symbol notably present on the Uruguayan flag. We also find a yellow inspired by this sun on the “away” jersey, which the Uruguayans could be brought to wear several times, being present in a group where we play a lot in blue (France, Italy, Namibia).

South Africa

The Springboks jersey has not changed so much compared to 2019 and their coronation in Japan. The outfit, of course green, is accompanied by gold on the collar. The “outdoor” outfit is more surprising, with patterns drawn on the jersey and turquoise and white hues.

Scotland

We stay in the classic with a dark blue jersey for Scotland, accompanied by Scottish tartan patterns on the side. The “away” jersey marks the return of white, after being pale purple during the 2022-2023 season. Tunics “made from Eco Fabric, a polyester material made entirely from recycled plastic, says Scottish Rugby, proud to convey a clear message of sustainability and respect for the environment”.

Tonga

Tonga are returning to their traditional shades of red and white this year. A darker red than in 2015 and 2019, on which appears the “Kupesi tokelaufeletoa”, a traditional Tongan motif. The jersey also pays homage to Tonga’s ‘angafakatonga’ (the Tongan way) and its ‘illustrated art of tapa (bark cloth) making’.

Australia

The Wallabies opt this year, and for the first time since 1995 in the World Cup, for a fairly orange yellow, the traditional color of the Australian jersey, with green on the collar, sleeves and shorts. The “away” shirt is white.

Wales

If the Welsh jersey, of course red, has not changed much since 2019, there are differences on the collar and the sleeves where the notes of white and green are more discreet. The equipment supplier has also changed, going from Under Armor 4 years ago to Macron today.

Portugal

Portugal’s home shirt, also designed by Macron, features various shades of red, in the form of checks. It shows the coat of arms of Portugal, present on the national flag. The collar and the sleeves are decorated with green.

Japan

The Brave Blossoms’ new jersey retains the red stripes on a white background sported in 2019. The Japanese will also wear a blue and black “away” jersey, with golden diagonal stripes.

Argentine

No revolution for the tunic of the Pumas, sky blue and white. The “outside” tunic opts for a navy blue striped with a diagonal white line and red tints on the sleeves and collar.
