Due to his deportation, Boris Becker is not able to report live from England about Wimbledon. The German tennis icon is now returning to the expert microphone. He is very happy, says Becker.

Germany’s tennis icon Boris Becker is still used as a TV expert at his favorite tournament Wimbledon. As announced by Sky Italia, the three-time winner of the grass classic will comment on and analyze the matches this Wednesday and finally next Sunday as a special guest in the studio. He was “very happy” about the commitment, said the 55-year-old in a Sky video published on Twitter, “and we’ll talk about tennis”.

After his early release from prison in December last year, which he served in a London prison for providing false information in the insolvency proceedings, Becker is currently not allowed to enter England. It is therefore not possible for him to work as a TV expert for the BBC, as he has in the past.

Before the start of the tournament, Becker told the German Press Agency that he would be watching the third Grand Slam tournament of the year from his new home in Milan and “zapping back and forth” between Sky Italia and the BBC. “Even if I’m not there, Wimbledon is still the best season for me. I’m looking forward to finally starting on Monday.”

Sabalenka and Jabeur in the Wimbledon semifinals

There is definitely a new winner for women at Wimbledon this year. Defending champion Jelena Rybakina from Kazakhstan lost in the quarter-finals of Wednesday’s grass classic against Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur 7: 6 (7: 5), 4: 6, 1: 6 and was eliminated in London. Last year both tennis players faced each other in the final. At that time, Rybakina won in three sets and celebrated her first Grand Slam title.

This time Jabeur prevailed and now meets Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals this Thursday. The second in the world rankings from Belarus clearly won their quarterfinals against Madison Keys from the USA 6: 2, 6: 4 and is thus in the last four of Wimbledon like two years ago. Last year, Sabalenka was not allowed to play at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club because of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine.
