Swiatek and Wickmayer Battle to Continue in Semifinals, German Awaits in Final

For a long time, Iga Swiatek looked like the sure winner against Belgian Yanina Wickmayer. The Pole led 6-1 and 5-2 in the semifinals in Warsaw. But Wickmayer fought his way up. Then the game had to be stopped at 5:5. It continues tomorrow at 12 o’clock. In the final, a German is waiting for the winner.

It could be the Sunday of home wins. In Hamburg, Alexander Zverev is in the final against Laslo Djere and is reaching for the title in his hometown. Iga Swiatek does something similar in her native city of Warsaw. But it’s not certain yet. Iga Swiatek was unable to convert match points against Belgian Yanina Wickmayer in the second set and let her opponent come back to 5:5. But then it got too dark and the game had to be interrupted and will continue tomorrow at 12 noon.

In the final on Sunday, the winner meets German Laura Siegemund, who beat her compatriot Tatjana Maria in three sets and also had to play her quarter-finals on Saturday morning because the rain had thrown the schedule in the Polish capital upside down.
