Successful Start of the Palio Storico in Albenga: Thousands Gather to Experience Historic Festival

Great success for the first evening of the Palio Storico in Albenga. Thousands of people crowded the Ingauni Historic Center to admire the shows, cheer on the games in the Districts, visit the stands and cellars, all thanks to the organization of the APS Rievocatori Ingauni, the San Giovanni, San Siro, Sant’Eulalia and Santa Maria Districts, Mway Communication & Events, the Ai Giardinetti Literary Café and the municipality of Albenga.

Mayor Riccardo Tomatis says: “The first evening of the Palio Storico di Albenga was even more attended than in previous years, and I think this highlights how this event has grown over the last few years. If this has been possible, it is, first of all, due to the constant work of the organizers, in particular the Ingauni re-enactors association and the Municipality – in this regard I thank in particular the offices, the deputy mayor Alberto Passino and the councilor for events Marta Gaia who hold periodic meetings throughout the year to better organize the Palio – but also thanks to the numerous volunteers who deal with the management of some aspects, sometimes not very visible, but essential for the event to take place in safety “.

“I would also like to underline – concludes the mayor – the work that is done, not only during the evenings of the Palio or in the organizational phase, but also between one evening and another. The Historic Center is arranged and cleaned up – and for this I thank the SAT – and quickly returns to being usable already in the early hours of the morning”.

The artists accompany the four evenings: Sonagli di Tagatam, Compagnia del Coniglio, Milfo Lo Buffon Giullare and Leo Gobbo, Pyroetnico, Il Paggio dei Clerici Vagantes, Il mondo delle Ali, Pierpaolo Pederzini, Ianna Tampé, the Tamburini del Podestà, the artists and re-enactors of the La Duecentesca Cultural Association.

The novelties and attractions present in the various districts this year: in the San Siro district (in Piazza San Domenico) there is a medieval “micro-industry” linked to the processing of leather. An indoor tanning workshop in the cellar with an annexed outdoor part that is more scenic and demonstrative. Inside the cloister is an ancient market. Furthermore, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the District will host the falconers of the World in the Wings, where it will be possible to see diurnal and nocturnal birds of prey up close.

In the San Giovanni district (in Piazza dei Leoni) there is a “re-enactment moment” in which different figures interact with each other recreating what could have been a scene of daily life in the 13th century and in particular the shop and stalls dedicated to the sale of wax.

In the Santa Maria district (in Piazza dei Leoni) there is a cross-section of daily life with “La Mescita del Vino”. Historical veils under which the ancient Bottega del Vino will be rebuilt. it shows which drinks were consumed and enriched the medieval tables. The Quarter is set up with barrels, vines and accessories related to the chosen trade, the Bottaio’s workshop.

In the Sant’Eulalia district (in Piazza Trincheri) there is an “ancient market”, display stands and the craft of the Cartaio, the production of paper, from rag pulp, giving life to a small paper mill.

The set up areas: Piazza dei Leoni, with the historic market recalled and curated by the Ingauni re-enactors; Piazza IV Novembre and Via Enrico d’Aste with historic stalls and themed stalls with medieval merchants and craftsmen from all over Italy with corners dedicated to teaching and workshops; Piazza del Popolo with the “Palio dei bambini” with dedicated games and installations. New, always dedicated to children and families, are the creative workshops curated by Linda Castiglione where, every day from 6 pm, it will be possible to try your hand at skilled artists/builders and take on the role of princesses or knights.
