STVV Begins New Season with Dominant Home Win Against Standard

STVV started the new season with a great home win against Standard. Aboubakary Koita blasted the 1-0 against the nets in the final. A well-filled Stayen celebrated after a strong match.

Thorsten Fink brought his predicted eleven against the Rouches. So with newcomer Ito to the detriment of Van Dessel. Schmidt, Smets, Bocat and Koita remained from last season’s basic players. In the end, STVV had no less than six Belgians on the mat, four of them from Limburg. Also a Limburger at Standard, Vanheusden showed off in the eleven with the visitors. Coach Hoefkens chose Kawabe instead of Mundle.

Solution through the flanks

The first danger came from Standard. Goalkeeper Schmidt played in dangerously to Delorge, who was stolen from the ball, but the Liège team forgot to take advantage. STVV also showed itself in the opening fifteen minutes via speed devil Koita. He swerved a little too far to the outside, allowing Bodart to deviate the shot. Bocat tried it with a slider from the second line: easy for Bodart.

STVV sought and found the solutions through the flanks. In this way ‘Magician’ Ito could also be put into position. He showed himself with a solid slider, which went just wide. Sint-Truiden tried and craved a penalty kick when Bocat was knocked off the socks by Fossey. Too light, Vergoote and the VAR let football play.

Ironclad Smets

Especially on the left, STVV found openings via Koita and Bocat, but the good will rarely resulted in a goal attempt. The decisiveness of the sixteen was still lacking with the Canaries, also with Standard, which did not get enough done on half of the home team, where a very strong Smets kept the lock on the door together with a good football goalkeeper Schmidt.

Both teams showed a lot of good will immediately after the break. The last pass was missing at both Standard and STVV. Ananou served the hardworking Kaya, from a difficult angle the shot flew far over.

Supported by the twelfth man, STVV pushed the accelerator. Steuckers and Kaya tried, no problem for Bodart. Who would wipe the glasses score off the board? It kept looking coffee grounds. The match could have gone either way.

Raket van Koita

All of Stayen hoped for fireworks in the lock. Once Steuckers squeezed in well, but again the frame was missed. Smets almost became the match winner, he headed a ball from close range towards goal, Price saved from the line. Ananou also brought the ball perfectly into the box, again there was no finisher. Until Aboubakary Koita completely dissolved his devils. He looked for his left and sublimely hit the winning goal with a rocket against the ropes. Immediately three good points for Sint-Truiden.
