Chris Woerts did not make any friends at The Orange Summer. The sports marketer was not enthusiastic about women’s football on the broadcast and his comments went wrong with presenter Hélène Hendriks and reporter Noa Vahle.

Woerts stated that the World Cup is not really alive worldwide. “They play very different sports in New Zealand and Australia (the host countries, ed.) In New Zealand it is pure and only rugby. That is the biggest sport in the country. It is not quite alive yet. Women’s football is not really alive in the world at all. The World Cup for men is broadcast in 200 countries, the World Cup for women maybe only in 32,” said the marketer.

Vahle stated that women’s football is a sport on the rise. “That’s right, but you’re already happy if they play the ball to the right color”, Woerts sneered. Hendriks was not pleased with that: “Oh, you are so bad”, she responds. “This is what he wanted to say all evening,” Vahle said.

According to Hendriks, Woerts was ‘challenging a bit’. “The funny thing is, Andries Jonker is not to be envied as a national coach. They have a training field there in New Zealand that is a cricket field, where there is a concrete slab. If that happens with the men, Louis van Gaal would have said: ‘Dude, fuck off with that nonsense. We are going home,’ Woerts then gives as another example.
