The 28-year-old is said to have gotten into an argument with a local (22) on the street early on Sunday morning. The initially verbal argument escalated, and Gersbeck is said to have injured his opponent. Hertha reacted to the incidents early Monday evening with a temporary suspension. “Due to the police investigations into our player Marius Gersbeck, we have decided to suspend Marius from team training until further notice. He has also left the team hotel without permission,” explained managing director Thomas Herrich in a club statement.
The decision was made by Herrich and sports director Benjamin Weber, it said. “The reason for the suspension is the alleged facts in the context of the training camp in Zell am See/Austria”. Gersbeck has to keep fit individually for the time being. The goalkeeper himself or his management have not yet commented on the events. The team will be at the training camp in Salzburg until the end of the week.
