Shooting Incident Shakes New Zealand as Women’s World Cup Begins

The killing spree in Auckland (New Zealand).

The act of a 24-year-old, who shot himself and two people on the day the World Cup opened, shook a country that had been looking forward to a peaceful start to the tournament.

Out of respect for the victims, the opening of the fan festival was postponed by one day to tomorrow, according to ARD information.

And of course our DFB women in Australia quickly got the horror message.

Defense attorney Kathy Hendrich: “Such news is a shock. We talked about it. But we feel safe.”

Apparently, the killing spree is not related to the World Cup. However, it happened near the Fan Fest and the stadium.

DFB press spokeswoman Sonja Alger said: “Our security officers are in close contact with the authorities. We have our security officer with us and also FIFA security personnel in the base camp. We will continue to monitor the situation vigilantly and sensitively. We have the information that the attack is not directly related to the World Cup. With us, everyone at Team Base Camp feels safe.”
