Sebastian Ofner Stuns Bernabe Zapata Miralles, Advances to Quarterfinals at ATP Tournament

Sebastian Ofner beat the Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles after a set deficit on Thursday with 4: 6, 6: 4, 6: 4 and scratched the top 50 in the world rankings for the first time in his career. In the round of the last eight, a duel with the top seeded Casper Ruud beckons.

The 27-year-old from Styria started the game promisingly with an early break, but immediately conceded the rebreak to make it 2-2. In the further course of the first set, the Styrian revealed difficulties with his own serve, gave it up twice and lost 4:6.

In the second round, Ofner raised his level and presented his opponent with bigger problems. The preliminary decision in favor of the Styrian came with the break to 4:3. Ofner then took the momentum with him into the decisive set, in which he was quickly 3-0 in the lead. At 5:2 and his own serve, Ofner already scored a match point, but Zapata Miralles came back to 4:5. After more than two and a half hours, Ofner used his fourth match point.
