Sabitzer changes from Bayern to BVB – Sport

As expected, Borussia Dortmund has strengthened with Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich. BVB announced this on Monday evening. The Austrian national player signed a contract with Westphalia until 2027. According to media reports, Borussia should transfer around 15 million euros to the title rival.

“Marcel is an experienced player who has been playing at the top international level for years,” commented Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl: “He fits exactly the profile we were looking for: a central midfielder who will strengthen us both defensively and offensively as a box-to-box player. Marcel is physically strong and also exudes a lot of goal threat.”

After Bellingham’s departure, Sabitzer is set to play an important role in midfield

The 29-year-old had no prospects at FC Bayern despite a contract until 2025. Since moving from RB Leipzig in August 2021, Sabitzer has made 54 competitive appearances for Bayern, most of them as a substitute. He was loaned to Manchester United in the second half of last season, but England’s record champions refrained from making a permanent commitment. After the departures in midfield of Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), Raphael Guerreiro (FC Bayern) and Mo Dahoud (Brighton & Hove Albion), Sabitzer is likely to play an important role in the headquarters of Dortmund coach Edin Terzic.

At Borussia he also meets a familiar face from Bayern days in defender Niklas Süle. “I can’t wait to finally join the team and be able to wear the BVB jersey,” said Sabitzer, who will be traveling to the USA for a friendly trip for Dortmund on Tuesday: “I want to do my part to ensure that BVB achieves its goals and has every reason to celebrate something special with its fans again as soon as possible.”
