After securing his place in Paris 2024 for the 400m freestyle test, Alfonso Mestre competed in the 200m at the 2023 Fukuoka Swimming World Championships and managed to improve his personal record.
The swimmer, the second Venezuelan confirmed for the Olympic event in the French capital, finished the test in one minute and 47.36 seconds. This to finish in second position in the fifth heat.

In general, the 21-year-old native -whose previous mark was 1:48.1- finished 26th among 74 competitors.
He still has to compete in the 800m freestyle, on July 25, and the 1500m a day later.
His older brother, Alberto Mestre, for his part, will take action on July 26 in the 100m freestyle and two days later he will participate in the 50m freestyle test.
