Rumored Transfer: Woo-yeong Jeong to VfB Stuttgart

Coach Christian Streich would regret saying goodbye to offensive player Woo-yeong Jeong from SC Freiburg, but in a way he would understand. “It will be a shame if he goes away,” said the coach of the Baden Bundesliga team, who started preparing for the new season on Monday. “If he stayed, I would be satisfied because I appreciate the Woo-yeong.”

Rumor: Woo-yeong Jeong to VfB Stuttgart

VfB Stuttgart are interested in Jeong. Under VfB coach Sebastian Hoeneß, the South Korean once played in the second team at FC Bayern Munich. His contract with SC runs until June 2025. “He didn’t have that much playing time last season,” said Streich about the 23-year-old. Although Jeong has made 26 appearances in the league, he only played around 25 minutes on average and contributed to three goals.

“He’s young, he wants to show himself on the pitch,” said Streich about the international. It is sometimes “difficult for the professionals to make the right decision”. Most recently, the offer from Stuttgart is said to have been 3 million euros and thus around half a million below Jeong’s current market value. Freiburg, however, demand at least 4 million euros to let the attacker go this summer.

Jeong was signed by FC Bayern in 2019 for 2 million euros. Its market value had been devalued by around EUR 2 million over the past year.
