After participating in the World Baseball Classic (GB. for its acronym in English) 2023, Randy Arosarena became one of the banners of the Mexican ninth. Thanks to his good performance, he managed to position himself as one of the best baseball players of the moment in Major League Baseball (MLB) and in the home run Derby he made national sports history.

Having Mexican nationality and having obtained the right to contest the 2023 edition of the home run derby, Randy Arosarena became the third Mexican participant in the batazos contest. Although he could not be crowned the best homer, with his second-place finish he managed to match the participation of the last Mexican who tried to win the title.

The first Aztec to receive an invitation to participate in one of the most anticipated events by Major League fans was Vinicio Castiglia in the year of 1998. Despite his good moment, he failed to meet expectations and was excluded from the contest after logging 12 homers in all their attendance at Coors Field.

It took 11 years for the Mexican delegation to participate again in the mid-season contest. In the 2009 season, the guest of honor was first baseman Adrian González. Although his prowess with the bat was demonstrated, he failed to prove it in the contest and hit only a couple of home runs.

In 2011 the Titanos, under the cover of the Boston Red Sox, was again required to participate in the Major League Baseball (MLB) home run derby. On that occasion he managed to reclaim his relevance and thanks to his collection of 31 home runs he managed to sneak into the stellar bracket, where he fell after being overtaken by Robinson Canó of the Dominican Republic.

In that sense, Randy Arosarena managed to equalize the participation of titan gonzález. Despite his solid attendance and encouragement from a significant portion of the crowd, the Mexican baseball player could not surpass the total number of Vladimir Guerrero jr. who remained with the league.

While the Tijuana Bulls-trained player managed to get the ball into the stands 23 times, the Dominican-Canadian-born player surpassed the mark with two more homers and wound up with the win in a close final against Tampa Bay policeman Rays .

It’s worth mentioning that Randy Arosarena’s participation won’t be limited to the home run Derby controversy. For his good performances and after being favored by the vote of the followers of the Major Leagues, the Mexican baseball player was chosen to be part of the ninth team of the representative of the American championship in Game of all stars this July 11, 2023.
