The public prosecutor’s office in Berlin has applied for a penalty order to be issued against tennis professional Alexander Zverev. The public prosecutor’s office confirmed this to the NDR. The allegation: domestic violence.
The application was made on July 7, 2023 at the Tiergarten district court. The Olympic champion from Hamburg is charged with bodily harm. The court must now decide whether it shares the suspicion and the prosecutor’s assessment of the amount of the sentence – so it is not a judgment, but a decision proposed by the prosecutor, which can spare Zverev a public hearing.
If a penalty order is issued, Zverev can appeal within two weeks. If he does that, it would come to the main hearing. Otherwise the penal order would become final. Until then, the presumption of innocence applies.

Olga Sharipova, another ex-girlfriend, had previously made allegations of violence against Zverev.
