Philadelphia 76ers Sign Euroleague Talent Filip Petrusev

After the various acquisitions via draft and the crazy start of free agency, the NBA continues to take talent from the Euroleague. The Philadelphia 76ers have announced the incorporation of Filip Petrusev, the young center of the Red Star 23 years old and 2.11, who consolidated last season with his role in the top continental competition, with 10.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 54% shooting from the field and 35% from triples.

Petrusev, whose rights ‘Philly’ owned after being selected 50th in the 2021 draft, has finished convincing the team that Nick Nurse will lead next season with his performance in the Summer League, with 12.5 points, 4.5 catches and 61% shooting from the field. The interior will receive 1.2 million in the one-year contract that he has signed so far.

With passage through the lower categories of Partizan, Red Star and also baskonia, the Serbian center played two years in the NCAA with Gonzaga in his 4-year tour of the United States before spending the 20-21 season with the Mega -the team of Nikola Jokic before making the leap to the NBA-, where he was MVP of the ABA League. In the 21-22 campaign he played for Anadolu Efes before his year at Red Star.

With his outside threat, Petrusev is aiming more to play power forward for the Sixers given the overbooking of centers with Joel Embiid as spearhead and Paul Reed, Montrezl Harrell and Mo Bamba as substitutes. In fact, ‘Philly’, apart from the option of Tobias Harris, needs a ‘4’ with offensive gunpowder given the limitations of P.J. Tucker despite his fame as a great defender.

Apart from the arrival of Victor Wembanyama to the Spurs, the Kings have incorporated Sasha Vezenkov (Olympiakos), the Oklahoma City Thunder to Vasilije Micic (Efes), and the same Spurs to Sidy Cissoko -in the G-League Ignite but previously passed through Baskonia-, via draft.

For his part, Bilal Coulibaly (Metropolitans 92) has joined the Wizards via Pacers and the good performance at Barça and Partizan has served Dante Exum to return to the NBA and in a ring project like that of the Dallas Mavericks of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. The NBA does not stop looking at Europe.
