The National Basketball Association (NBA) could offer a novel way to watch live games on Apple’s Vision Pro headset, which will be released in 2024. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has indicated that the NBA is working closely with Apple to bring a technically enhanced viewing experience to the platform and provide an immersive VR sports experience.

NBA Partners with Apple for Enhanced Viewing Experience
The NBA is working with Apple to revolutionize the way basketball games are watched, according to NBC. Apple’s Vision Pro headset will allow users to experience content in virtual reality, including sports events, and the NBA could be one of the first to benefit from this technology.
According to Adam Silver, the NBA and Apple are working to bring viewers a unique courtside experience, including 3D rendered replays of basketball games. Unfortunately, the prospect cannot yet be understood as an official announcement. Because before that there are still some rights issues to be clarified.
The NBA currently has a $24 billion media rights deal with Disney broadcasters ESPN and ABC and Warner Bros.’ Turner Sports that expires after the 2024-2025 season. Apple’s new offer could mean the league would have to forgo its exclusive negotiation windows with those companies, which expire in April 2024.
Of course, the league could also decide to extend the deals with Disney and Warner Bros. More likely, however, is that the NBA will put together two packages for bidders, splitting the content for three or four partners across streaming and traditional television.
The NBA would be a logical extension of the Apple TV offer. Alongside the immersive NBA experience, Apple is reported to be expanding its live sports services. Recently, for example, it became known that the company is interested in the Bundesliga. Apple has already secured the US Major League Soccer (MLS). Also on board is MLB Friday Night Baseball.
