Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller are currently missing from FC Bayern Munich. The national coach has now spoken about the possible future of the veterans in the national team.

National coach Hansi Flick wants to wait until both are completely fit again before Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller return to the national soccer team.

In an interview with “Kicker”, Flick gave the two 2014 world champions no guarantee of a comeback in the DFB selection, for which the fine-tuning for the home European Championship in 2024 will begin with the international matches in September. During the disappointing international matches in June, Müller was given a break in view of the announced experiments, Neuer only began to train again after breaking his leg last December.

According to Flick, he spoke to the veterans of champion FC Bayern Munich who are currently not operational. “I spoke to Manuel on the phone. I wish for myself and for the whole of football Germany that Manuel comes back the way we all know him. Above all, I wish him the same,” said the national coach. The 37-year-old newcomer will not be available again before the start of the Bundesliga on August 18 at Werder Bremen.

Praise for Ter Stegen

Flick pointed out that Neuer’s current national team representative Marc-André ter Stegen (31) is outstanding at FC Barcelona and has also done well in the DFB team. “We’re really, really well positioned in this position,” said Flick (58).

Kevin Trapp from Eintracht Frankfurt also claims a place in goal. “My goal is to open the door with my performances and successes with Eintracht next year to be number 1 in goal,” said the 33-year-old, also in “kicker”.

Flick announced about Müller: “We will sit down again and talk in detail. For him, too, it’s about getting fit, he missed important weeks in preparation.” The 33-year-old is missing from FC Bayern’s current trip to Asia due to a hip injury.
