Latvian beach volleyball players Mārtiņš Pļaviņš and Mihailov Samoilovs failed in the final of the second stage of the Latvian beach volleyball championship – the traditional tournament “Saulkrasti Kokteilis” – while Līva Ēber and Daniela Konstantinova celebrated the victory in the women’s tournament.

Pļaviņš and Samoilovs, who were seeded number one, lost 0-2 (18:21, 21:23) to Javier and Joaquin Bello (3rd), the Spanish twins representing England. Before that, Samoilovs/Pļaviņš beat Sandri Andrejeva/Tomas Benjava (11th) 2-0 (21:11, 21:10) in the quarter-final and won 2-1 (21:18, 18:21, 15:9) in the semi-final. over Austrian duo Pauls Paskariuchs/Laurenz Leitner (6th).

The other pair of twins Beljo (3rd) in the finals started the playoffs on Friday with a victory over the Latvians Arnis Reliņš/Rinalds Aišpurs (9th) with 2-0 (21:16, 21:9), and in the semi-final with 2-1 (21:17 , 16:21, 15:10) beat another Latvian duo Ardis Daniels Bedrītis/Artūrs Rinkēvičs (5th).

Bedrītis and Rinkēvičs then won third place, defeating Paskariučs and Laitner 2-1 (21:18, 18:21, 15:13) in the battle for bronze. On the other hand, in the finals of the women’s tournament, the first and second seeded duos met and the second seeded Ebere and Konstantinova proved to be superior, beating Varvara Brailko and Aneti Namički 2-1 (14:21, 23:21, 15:7).

Before that, Brailko/Namiķe won 2-0 (21:6, 21:16) over Marta Wilder/Deneva Schauberg (11th) in the quarter-finals, and in the semi-finals they were superior to Amanda Reguti 2-0 (21:12, 21:15). 41 pairs were entered in the men’s competition, and 29 in the women’s. This season, in the Latvian championship “DEPO Open 2023”, beach volleyball players compete in three stages and the final. All stages are held outside Riga, continuing to cover the regions of Latvia, and both men and women participate in all stages. As in previous seasons, players from other countries are also invited to participate as guests in all stages, except for the final. In addition, at the end of July, Liepāja will host one of the stages of the Baltic Masters within the framework of the Latvian Championship.
