Alonso leader, follow Leclerc

Not everyone is on the track, but whoever is there is trying to push. Everyone gives their best. Alonso is in command ahead of Leclerc.

Sainz makes a mistake and goes to the block: a red flag in free practice 1

Carlos Sainz makes a mistake in the wet and stops his Ferrari between the curb and the track. The Spaniard’s Ferrari cannot be moved and therefore it is a red flag.

Bottas in command of the FP1

The Finnish driver is the first to set a timed time and is therefore first in the standings in Hungary.

There is no activity on the track: after half an hour there is no timed time

No pilot has achieved a timed time. An abnormal situation. The enthusiasts who paid for the ticket are doing badly.

It’s raining heavily, the only one on the track is Hamilton

The driver with the most poles and the most victories on this track is the only one testing the track in the wet.

The FP1s resume, but it rains in Hungary

The riders are back on track, but the rain has arrived which makes the start of the weekend even more complicated.

Practice suspended due to Sergio Perez’s accident

The Mexican driver goes onto the grass and is no longer able to keep the car from crashing into turn 5. The red flag, but the clock advances and the suspension is a pity for all the drivers.

Red flag at the Hungaroring: Perez is already against the wall, another mistake by the Mexican

After just 3 minutes the FP1s are stopped. Sergio Perez lost his car and went into the wall, destroying his car. Another mistake by the Mexican who is having a terrible time.

What time does free practice 1 start and where to watch it in live streaming

The FP1 of the 2023 Formula 1 Hungarian GP will start in fifteen minutes. The start time of the first free practice session on the Hungaroring circuit is in fact set for 1.30pm. The Libere 1 can be seen in live streaming on the SkyGo app and, by subscription, on the NOW platform.

There is no free-to-air live coverage on TV8 for free practice

The free practice sessions of the Hungarian GP that will take place today and tomorrow on the Hungaroring circuit in Budapest will be broadcast live on TV and live streaming only on Sky. In fact, FP1, FP2 and FP3 will not be able to be seen for free on TV8 (channel 8 of digital terrestrial), not even in deferred mode.

Red Bull brings an important package of updates on the RB19s of Verstappen and Perez

The first major update package brought to the RB19 by the dominatrix Red Bull this season will also make its debut today in free practice for the Hungarian GP. The innovations introduced on the cars of Verstappen and Perez (the most evident concerns the reduction of the air intakes) should further improve the relationship between downforce and drag and therefore the already excellent aerodynamic efficiency shown so far by the single-seaters created by Adrian Newey which have won all the races held to date in this 2023 Formula 1 World Championship.

The new format for qualifying and fewer tires for the riders makes its debut in the Hungarian GP

The new Qualifying will make its debut in the 2023 Formula 1 Hungarian GP which opens today with the first two free practice sessions. In tomorrow’s qualifying session at the Hungaroring, the format with Q1, Q2 and Q3 will remain unchanged but drivers and teams will have to submit to a new regulation which will no longer allow them to choose the tires with which to take to the track and will also see the sets of slick tires at their disposal reduced by two units for the entire weekend.

In fact, contrary to what usually happens during F1 Qualifying, the drivers and teams will no longer be able to choose the compound they prefer but will have to take to the track with those established by the new regulation which provides for hard tires for Q1, medium for Q2 and soft for Q3. This new qualifying format is called Alternative Tire Allocation (ATA). Obviously the obligation will cease if the Qualifying is held on a wet track, in which case Full Wet or Intermediate tires will be used.

Furthermore, the number of sets of tires available to each individual driver also changes: in Budapest, in fact, each driver will no longer have 13 sets of tires to cover the entire race weekend but will only have 11.

Today’s weather on the Hungaroring circuit

The weather could somewhat complicate the team’s work in free practice for today’s Hungarian GP. In fact, the sky is mostly cloudy on the Hungaroring circuit and therefore at the moment we cannot completely rule out the arrival of rain during FP1 and FP2. The air temperature is around 26°C.

Free practice at the Hungaroring with a view to the future for Ferrari

After the various update packages introduced in the last GPs, Ferrari at the Hungaroring, except for the change of set-up with the transition to the high-load one, will not bring big news on the SF-23s of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. Today, however, in free practice, the Cavallino could test a new diffuser on the track that has never been tested up to now which will then be used in the next race at Spa. This test would be necessary because, since there is the Sprint Race, there will only be one free practice session available to the teams in the next Belgian GP.

The characteristics of the Hungaroring circuit in Hungary

The map of the Hungaroring circuit where the free practice sessions of the 2023 Formula 1 Hungarian GP are held today

Today the drivers will take to the track on the Hungaroring circuit in Budapest for free practice for the Hungarian GP, the eleventh round of the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship. The Hungarian track is 4.3 kilometers long and is very winding, with a majority of right-hand corners (8 against 6 on the left). Also considering the heat, this is one of the tracks that makes life very hard for both the drivers and the cars. It will therefore be important to get the aerodynamic load right.

According to the Brembo technicians, the official supplier of the Formula 1 braking systems, the most demanding corner for the brakes is the first after the finish line where the single-seaters go from 317 km/h to 95 km/h in 2.7 seconds, covering just 120 metres.

Last year, Max Verstappen with Red Bull won on the Magyar circuit, but the race lap record belongs to Lewis Hamilton who with Mercedes in 2020 in one of the 70 laps of the race managed to stop the clock at 1:16.627.
