Leverkusen Set to Sign Nigerian Attacker Victor Boniface

Leverkusen’s fifth signing for the coming season is as good as certain. Bayer 04 have reached an agreement with Union Saint-Gilloise on a fee for the Nigerian attacker. This completes the medical check on Saturday.

If everything goes smoothly, Victor Boniface’s transfer to Bayer 04 could be officially finalized on Saturday. The attacker is currently in Leverkusen to complete the obligatory medical check-up. The two clubs had previously reached an agreement, meaning that the 22-year-old is about to sign a five-year contract.

Bayer 04 brought the beefy attacker, who can play as a center forward, but also in a double attack or in a half position, primarily as a replacement for striker Patrik Schick, who will be out at least until the beginning of October after groin surgery.

Fixed fee at around 16 million euros

Boniface, who just drew attention to himself in the Europa League with six goals and two assists in ten games and delivered a strong performance in the 1-1 quarter-final first leg against Union Saint-Gilloise, according to kicker information, could end up costing the factory club just over 20 million euros. However, the fixed fee is well below this amount. The Bundesliga club definitely has to transfer around 16 million euros to the Belgians. With various bonuses, this sum can, but only ideally from the perspective of the Belgian top club, just crack the 20 million euro mark.

These additional payments depend not only on the sporting success of the club, but also on the performance of the player. This is of particular importance in this case, as Boniface has already suffered two cruciate ligament tears in the same knee in his young career. With this regulation, Bayer reduces the medical risk of the transfer.

From a sporting point of view, it can be assumed that Boniface (although perhaps not from day one) will take part in the Leverkusen training camp in Saalfelden (Austria), to which the factory club is leaving on Sunday.
