Judo Peru Dominates the Lima 2023 Junior Pan American Championship

Judo Peru had an excellent performance in the Lima 2023 Junior Pan American Championship, which is held at the Videna Sports Center 3 in San Luis, taking first place in the medal table, after winning 4 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze medals.

The great figure of was the judoka Mateo Cóndor, who repeated the great performance he had in the previous edition, where he won gold and bronze. This time, he took the gold medal after winning 3 consecutive bouts in the -60kgs division. Condor was unstoppable. He defeated Gabriel Agüero from Costa Rica, Mateo Cabral from Paraguay and Mexican José Quinta in the final.

“I am excited about this achievement for my country. It means even more because I did it in my first year as a junior. Now my next goal is the Pan American in Oceania that will be in September and I plan to leave Peruvian judo on high”, were the words of the Peruvian champion.

Those who also climbed to the top of the podium were Pedro Casas in -90kg, Driulys Rivas in -48kgs and Zoila Nevado in -70kgs. While Liza Cerillo -70kg and Hilary Lam -52kgs achieved the silver medal. The bronze medalists were Denilson Bejarano -73kg, Franco Baltazar -66kgs, Sebastián Benítez -81kg, Luciana Julca -57kg and Eillynn López -52kgs.

Judokas from other countries also stood out, such as Luis Pariche (Venezuela), who bathed in gold in -81kg, as well as Davies Luke (Great Britain) in -73kgs and Reinaldo Cáceres (Chile) in -66kgs.

The judo festival will continue this Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23 with the long-awaited ‘Lima 2023’ Pan American Open, which awards points for the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
