Improving Qualifying Performance: Sergio Pérez’s Plan for Success at Red Bull Racing

There seems to be a signal from several angles that Red Bull Racing is satisfied with Sergio Pérez’s race pace, but the qualifications have to be a lot better. The Mexican realizes that himself and after the race at Silverstone he tells us how he will tackle that problem.

Last Sunday, Pérez managed to fight back from P15 to sixth position. The Red Bull driver indicated afterwards that it was very difficult to overtake. In the past five races, ‘Checo’ had no good qualifications, so he always had to start a catch-up race. The RB19 has the speed to win races and Pérez will do everything he can to ensure he has the best starting spot on Sunday.

It’s about the details

In front of the assembled media, including GPFans, Pérez looks back on the mediocre qualifying series. “It’s about the details that are not always correct. The car was also a bit sensitive the last few races, especially on Saturday with little fuel,” he points to the cause. After the race at Silverstone, he immediately crawled into the simulator to get qualifying in order. “That’s something I’m going to work on on Monday in the simulator, with the team. We already have some ideas, but we’re working in such a small working window.” Still, he is satisfied with the speed on Sunday. “The positive thing is that the pace is there on Sunday and that’s where the points are awarded.”

Race weekend approach

According to Pérez, things have to be different, especially in the approach to the weekend. “How I approach the weekend and especially Saturday. We have to figure that out. The last few qualifying there were a lot of changing conditions and then it comes down to the details,” says Checo. Dr. Helmut Marko, but also Christian Horner have indicated that Pérez is safe for the time being and that they will get started with his qualifications. “So I’m not too worried,” said Pérez.
