The representation of Holguín finished in third place by provinces and won the gold medal in the team competition, corresponding to the National Judo Championship, school category, which ended this Friday in the Fernando de Dios Buñuel indoor room, in the capital of Holguín. .

After totaling the collective and individual events and the technical tests, the Holguin national team returned to the awards podium eight years later, in a sport that has always been among the elite of our province.

Once again the delegation from Havana reigned on the Cuban tatami mats and on this occasion the delegation from Artemisa was ranked second by province.

Behind the new monarchs in the team fight, the Havana team was located and the bronze medals corresponded to the delegations of Mayabeque and Artemisa.

Frank Jimmy Columbie and Aslee Alpajón were gold medalists.

By medals, Holguín finished in fourth place, thanks to two gold medals, the same amount of silver and four bronze, a performance that was only surpassed by the delegations from Havana (5-1-5), Artemisa (2-4-3 ) and Guantanamo (2-3-3) in that order.

Frank Jimmy Columbié from Holguin, in the 55 kg and Aslee Alpajón in more than 74 kg, reached the gold medal, while José Carlos Sánchez in 73 kg and Yalianni Marcané (44 kg) took over the silver medal.

Their categories ended with bronze María Carla Vargas (48), José Miguel Ávila (45), Yisel Cutiño (44) and Yarleidis Nicot (74).

The picture of honor was integrated by Havana Nailen Acosta (54kg) as most outstanding athlete, Yeinet Coronado (Artemisa- 48kg) most technical and the best fight was developed by Santiaguera Lourdelis Pérez and Holguina champion Aslee Alpajón at 74kg.

Sports glory Yurisleidis Lupetey, world champion and Olympic bronze medalist, was in charge of recognizing the best athletes in the competition, where they also encouraged Alexander Despaigne (Villa Clara-81kg) as the most outstanding.

As reported by sports correspondent Roberto Riverón Angulo, the best techniques were applied by Jonathan Delgado (Havana, 90kg) and the most exciting fight was registered by Joel Hernández (Pinar del Río) and Mauricio de Armas (Havana) in the 60kg. The referee with the best performance was Oneivis López de Artemisa.

Among the girls, the squads from Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba and Artemisa led the competition in that order, while the boys’ competition was dominated by Matanzas, Artemisa and Havana, respectively.

In the general table, the people from Pinar del Río finished fifth with two gold, one silver and three bronze, followed by Sancti Spíritus (1-2-0), Santiago de Cuba (1-1-6), Matanzas (1-1- 3), Mayabeque (1-1-2), Villa Clara (1-0-0), Camaguey (0-1-3), Granma (0-1-1), Ciego de Avila (0-0-3) and Las Tunas (0-0-1).
