“Both have brought a new wind into the cabin, and above all huge experience, which will be useful to us,” is the joy of MFK Karviná coach Tomáš Hejdušek, who is rehearsing the first match in the Czech top flight on Saturday in the role of head coach.
You were already on the bench of the first league team when you led Baník together with Tomáš Galásek instead of the recalled Ondřej Smetana. However, as the head coach, you will experience the first league premiere against Zlín. What feelings are you going to the match with?
I’m not nervous, I’m looking forward to it. It’s just football (smile). Let it be here. I may surprise you, but before the start of the second league season, I felt more pressure on myself. Everyone assumed that we would roll the opponent, now it is not like that. I feel a bit of pressure, but it’s not as much as before last season, when we faced the clear task of advancing back to the first league.
There is also a clear task ahead of you now, isn’t it? To save the league in Karviná.
Yippee. Rescue is a definite goal and we would be happy if we could avoid the battles for retention.
In preparation, you played six matches with an even number of wins, draws and defeats (2-2-2). You scored exactly the same number of goals as you scored (11:11). How do you rate it?
Above all, I’m glad that we have it behind us. It was short, but served its purpose. Everyone gave her a fair push and I feel that we have good competition in the team. The team was suitably supplemented, seven new players arrived plus boys from the 19th grade. We now have twenty-four footballers in the field and four goalkeepers.
Can we expect any more changes?
They will. I would like a player to come to the side and to the midfield. It’s still open. The squad is bigger because we have young people in the team who train with us and will play for the B team.
Karviná benefits from the sale of talents. Lingr, Ba Loua and now Durosinmi have made it to the top Czech teams. Do any of the young players appear similar?
Everyone is interesting in something. They played in the Karviné youth team, now they are here with us and are competitive. That’s great news. Lucky Ezeh was the best scorer of the preparation (4 goals), David Moses, Aboubacar Traoré or Kahuan Vinicius are also interesting.
Isn’t it a shame that you don’t draw Czech players from the youth?
There are no young Czech players, and if they do appear, they will soon be a short distance away (in Baník).
You brought in seven players in the summer, including forward Doležal and stopper Svozil. Are you satisfied with the boost?
I am We now have an experienced player in each line. The defense was completed by Svozka (Svozil), which is a leader, a fighter. We have Buďa (Lukáš Budínský) in reserve, Doležal came into the attack. We have a good mix, the team is healthy.
The most significant reinforcement is forward Martin Doležal, who has 281 first league starts and 86 goals. Last season, however, did not work out for him in Lubin, Poland. How is it right before the start of the season?
It looks great. He is a good, humble boy, a great asset to the cabin, where he has brought a breath of fresh air. He was slightly undertrained, but he is working hard and it won’t be long before he can handle the whole match.
You got quite a few goals in preparation. Will the arrival of Jaroslav Svozil be a sufficient remedy for this problem?
In the defensive game, we are a little bit pushed by the shoe, but the positive thing is that we can score goals. We gave them eleven and still got them. We are working on it and I hope that it will be visible in our defensive game on Saturday against Zlín. The bundle will definitely contribute to that. He is a fighter who should help us both in matches and in training. He’s a good leader, an emotional guy, he can’t lose. We missed that at the back. He has had a long break due to injury, and Karviná is a new motivation for him. It is set up in such a way that it is impossible to finish it here, but to show that it still has the league.
The start of the Fantasy League is approaching
You start at home against Zlín, which, like Karviná, is considered a team that will play for salvation. Are you facing a very important strength test in the opening round?
I don’t care who we play. Every opponent will be tough. We went through a difficult second league and now we want to show that we are deservedly in the first league. We play at home and we want to be successful against anyone on our pitch. We go into it with humility, but we want to succeed at home.
A few days ago, your implementation team was strengthened by Michal Papadopulos, who will be the attackers’ coach. You said you approached him yourself, is that right?
Michal is a great person and I am glad that he accepted the offer and became one of the members of the implementation team. It is extremely important to all of us that it stays. He loves football and his presence in the team will be a great asset not only for the strikers.
