Harry Koch, who was a defender like his son and sensationally won the championship with Lautern in 1998, admits in BILD: “Of course, as a father and mother, you are happy that you only have to drive an hour to the game and your son is closer again is. We were also very happy to come to him in Leeds, it was just a bit further to get there. It’s nice to have him back.”

Of course, the shorter travel time was not the decisive factor for the return to the Bundesliga. Rather the prospect of making the next career step at Eintracht. To be the undisputed leading player as defense chief and to maybe make a comeback in the national team through good performances. The goal is “EM 2024” in their own country.

In any case, the father is convinced: “The three years in Leeds helped him a lot, he matured in England. Dealing with the cleverness and toughness there is a big challenge. England is the best league in the world. You play against world-class strikers every week. He proved himself there and he can be proud of that.”

And further: “He is at the age where he already wants to be a leader. In Frankfurt he wants to be at the forefront, be a leader and lead the team. It’s the next step to lead the team and take it further.”

Something that also distinguished him in his football career. In any case, in Lautern (1995 to 2003) the defender had a cult following, and not just because of his successes with FCK (besides champions and cup winners in 1996). The fans loved and adored him for his irrepressible will and passion on the pitch.
