Gregorio Paltrinieri renounces the 1500m freestyle in agreement with the coach Fabrizio Antonelli, the technical director Cesare Butini, the head of delegation Marco Bonifazi and the medical staff of the national swimming team led by Lorenzo Marugo. Tough decision for a champion who never agrees to give up anything (as amply demonstrated in his career), but taken with full awareness of one’s fitness level, to anticipate the complete recovery after a season conditioned by multiple illnesses that deprived him of the necessary continuity of training and an adequate approach to the world championships. Gregorio Paltrinieri is already returning to Italy in relaxation mode afterwards gold with the 4x1500m relay, silver in the 5km, fifth place in the 10km and eighth place in the 800m freestyle. The goal is to prepare the body and mind to face the next season with energy, which will lead to Paris 2024 Olympicspassing through i Doh World Cupto which, moreover, they will qualify for the 10 km, after the tiring and successful two-year period 2021-2022 (culminating with the Olympic medals in Tokyo despite mononucleosis and the successes at the World Championships in Budapest and at the European Championships in Rome) and the complicated 2023.
