As a defensive specialist, Grant Williams has a lot to say about who is the hardest player in the league to stop. The new Mavericks player was asked about it during his interview for Tidal Leaguein which, however, he gave an answer to later focus on a different player.
“Durant is the most difficult player to defend in the league, but Stephen Curry is the one with the most impact,” he said. “You have to defend him just as well when he has the ball as when he doesn’t. In fact, when he drops the ball maybe you should be even more scared.”
Grant recalls that Game 4 of the 2022 Finals marked a before and after in his way of understanding the point guard. The power forward even recognized that, after going 2-1 in the series, the Celtics felt on their way to the ring, which made the 43 points with which Steph took the TD Garden and changed the course of the tie more painful.
«With the 2-1, we felt that it was our moment and that we had it in hand. And in the fourth game we were ahead almost all the time and it seemed that the 3-1 was ours. But Steph was something unique. He is a different player. It is one of those moments that you go to to value how great he is. Before entering the NBA I remember watching him play and it seemed to me that the things he did were absurd, but when you play against him you realize that he is different.
