Goalkeeper coach for the U-22 Indonesian National Team Sahari Gultom respond to sanctions AFC after a riot in the final match SEA Games 2023 in Cambodia.
On 11 July 2023, the AFC Disciplinary Committee, imposed sanctions on three players and four coaching staff for the U-23 Indonesian National Team. Three people were sanctioned with a six-game ban and fines, the rest were banned for six matches.
Sahari is one of the coaching staff who has been banned from accompanying the team for six matches. The problem is that Sahari is currently assisting Bima Sakti in handling the U-17 Indonesian National Team.
If the sanction takes the form of a non-negotiable decision, there is a potential for the coach who is usually called coach Ucok not to accompany the team at the 2023 U-17 World Cup. Of course this will be very detrimental to Indonesia.
Regarding the sanction, Sahari wants to appeal. In this case PSSI will make an appeal. This is because Sahari feels that he did nothing wrong as alleged.
“[Saya akan] Appeal. We will appeal. People [lain] who eats jackfruit, how come you? [saya] who got the sap,” said Sahari when met after training for the U-17 Indonesian National Team at Field A Senayan, Saturday (15/7).
Apart from Sahari, other coaching staff for the Indonesian National Team who were sanctioned by the AFC were Tegar Diokta, Muhni Toid and Ahmad Nizar. The players who were sanctioned by Titan Agung, Komang Teguh, and Muhammad Taufani.
PSSI Executive Committee (Exco) member Sumardji confirmed that the federation would appeal the AFC’s decision. This was done because Sahari was believed not to have committed an unsportsmanlike act.
“We will appeal the sanctions at the SEA Games later, because there are some officials who shouldn’t be involved. For example, Sahari, coach Ucok, shouldn’t be involved at all,” said Sumardji.
