Defender Andrej Šustr is returning to Europe after the expiration of his contract abroad: he was introduced as a new reinforcement by the German club Kolín, which is coached by Uwe Krupp, who is well known to Czech fans.

Whether it is only a one-year contract or a long-term contract, Kolín did not disclose. “We have been following Andrej for a long time, we have been in contact with him for years. We are happy that he chose us now,” says head coach Uwe Krupp.

“He benefits from his physical proportions, but also from his game intelligence and insight into the game. He makes very good decisions on the ice,” Krupp is looking forward to the 201-centimeter-tall reinforcement.

Šustr returns directly to Europe after fourteen long years. In his junior year, he left his native Pilsen to go overseas, where he worked his way through the university NCAA to the NHL. He made 408 starts in the best league in the world, mostly in the colors of Tampa Bay.

“The decision was easy. The club has one of the best reputations in Europe.”

This year he worked on the farm in the AHL: he replaced Iowa and San Diego (a total of 51 games with a 3+11 record). “Recently, I have repeatedly spoken with Uwe Krupp, which is why a strong relationship has developed between us,” explains the thirty-two-year-old Šustr, why he signed in Cologne.

“The decision was easy. The club has one of the best reputations in Europe. I can’t wait,” adds Šustr, who will also meet compatriot Stanislav Dietz in the cabin.
