Football World Cup Down Under: Great adventure of the German women – sport

The DFB-Elf goes into the tournament with a dent in form, but the goals are still huge. Women’s football is set to develop further in Australia and New Zealand – but the mood there is quite different.

There are only a few days left until the start of the soccer World Cup in Australia and New Zealand – the German women have moved into their quarters north of Sydney, next Monday the game against Morocco will finally start. Because the preparation was not without problems, the trip Down Under is a trip into the unknown for the team of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg, but maybe something special will emerge in these weeks.

Under special circumstances, the SZ World Cup reporters also set out for the southern side of the globe, you rarely travel that far for a football tournament – so there is a lot to tell in this issue of “And now to sport”, the football talk of the southern Germans Newspaper. Moderator Jonas Beckenkamp explores the mood at the World Cup with Anna Dreher and Felix Haselsteiner, who are connected remotely – and looks at the chances of the German team.

Soccer Bundesliga, Champions League, sports policy at Fifa and DFB: “And now to sports”, the soccer podcast of the Süddeutsche Zeitung, gives insights into the most important soccer topic of the week. Every Monday, SZ sports editors discuss the background to current events.
