Exciting Split Games in the Baseball Bundesliga

It remains extremely exciting in the Baseball Bundesliga! On Saturday, the Schwechat Blue Bats and Dornbirn Indians (2:13, 3:1) as well as the Hard Bulls and Vienna Wanderers (2:15, 5:3) parted with a split.

In the duel between Dornbirn and Schwechat, game one with Mercy Rule was already a clear affair after seven innings with 13:2 in favor of the Dornbirn Indians. Vorarlberg, who played in the Bundesliga for the first time since June 11, were already 3-0 up after the first inning before Michael Salzmann and Moritz Riedmann added two more runs with two home runs. After a third inning without points, last year’s finalist recorded seven runs in the fourth inning, the highlight play was a 3-RBI home run by Marcel Theiner. A hitherto almost harmless Ryan Rupp at the Mound of the Indians had to accept the only runs in the sixth inning. Young talent Jamie Hegarty provided the final point of a one-sided game in the seventh inning on his debut in the highest Austrian baseball league. In his first plate appearance, he scored another home run for the final score.

Fewer runs but more excitement and an important home win for the Schwechat Blue Bats was seen by all fans in the second game. In the 3-1 win, all four runs came on the scoreboard in the first two innings. The Blue Bats advanced after a double from Matthew Jensen and a subsequent run from Livan Trujillo Silva. In the second inning, the Indians managed to equalize before the Blue Bats made it 3-1 with two runs and thus made the final score early. Blue Bats starting pitcher Kyle Smyth tagged to Roman Guthrie after six innings, who only got into trouble in the eighth inning. In Bases Loaded, however, he kept his nerve and finally brought the game home with ease. It was only the Blue Bats’ second win over the Indians in the Bundesliga. In sixth place in the table, they still have every chance of making the playoffs. Immediately ahead are the Indians in fifth place.

Also split into hard

In the double header between the Hard Bulls and the Vienna Wanderers, game one was also a clear affair for the favorites from Vienna. The defending champion clearly prevailed 15:2, with eight runs only appearing on the scoreboard in the eighth and ninth inning. After two innings without points at the beginning of the game, the Bulls even took a 2-1 lead in the third inning, before the Wanderers pulled away to 7-2 in innings four and five. Wanderers starter Lennard Halper, who had four hits and two runs in five innings, had already handed over to Fabian Hirnschal by this point. He was completely undamaged in four innings. On offense, Dominik Talir provided the highlight of the game in the ninth inning, hitting a Grand Slam home run on bases loaded.

In the import game, Bulls pitcher Kelvis Palma once again put his stamp on the game. In the 5-3 win, Palma only had to allow runs in the fourth and eighth innings. In the final inning, Wanderers had another bases-loaded but couldn’t capitalize as Palma ended the game with two of their 14 strikeouts. The Bulls scored their five runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings. Due to the split, the Vorarlbergers are still fourth in the table and are therefore on course for the playoffs. The Wanderers are behind the Diving Ducks Wr. Neustadt in second place.
