Ducks’ Victories Crush Schwechat’s Playoff Hopes

A failed attempt to catch decided the game against the leader of the table. The playoffs are now out of reach for Schwechat.

With the two defeats in the Lower Austria derby against the Ducks from Wiener Neustadt, the last chance for a playoff ticket in the Bundesliga was lost. Great was the anger about how the second game was lost. In the last inning, a Blue Bats player dropped the ball and the guests took the opportunity for the decisive run to 6:5. The deep sun had impaired the view of the brewery townsman. “We lost a game this year for the fifth time because of a run. We have to change that if we want to keep up with the best teams,” said club chairman Phil Weller.

Weller also attributes the absences of regular staff during the season to the missed goal. In the derby against Wiener Neustadt, Severin Schütz, who became the father of twins, and import player Trujillo Silva Livan were out.

Young hopefuls like David Eisenheld or Nicolas Niederl should now have more chances in the remaining rounds of the championship. “They were already playing, but their game was still too error-prone. They should gain experience in the last games. The pressure is gone now. That is definitely an advantage.”

The Ducks will meet again on Friday. In the evening game (starting at 7 p.m.) the Braustadt team have to play away.
