Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz qualified for the quarterfinals at Wimbledon on Monday. Both top players got the job done in four sets in the eighth finals. Tennis revelation Christopher Eubanks stunted again.

36-year-old Djokovic and Hubert Hurkacz, ten years younger, started their match in the eighth finals on Sunday evening. The match resumed on Monday afternoon, when ‘Djoko’ was already leading by two sets.

On Monday, the players gave each other little, just like on Sunday. With a 6-5 lead for Hurkacz (ATP-18), Djokovic’s service faltered and he had to hand in a set for the first time on the London grass. The 23-time Grand Slam winner then put things in order: 7-6 (6), 7-6 (6), 5-7 and 6-4.

Djokovic remains on track for his fifth Wimbledon title in a row. The number two in the world will compete in the quarter-finals against Andrey Rublev, who is seventh in the world ranking. Djokovic already won the Australian Open and Roland Garros this year. If the Serbian also wins Wimbledon and the US Open, he will be the first tennis player in 35 years to win a real Grand Slam.

Only five players have succeeded so far: Don Budge (1938), Maureen Connolly (1953), Rod Laver (1962 and 1969), Margaret Court (1970) and Steffi Graf (1988). Tennis icons Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal never won the four Grand Slam tournaments in one season.

Alcaraz beats Berrettini, Eubanks stunt again

Number one in the world Alcaraz did not get it in the eighth finals and even fell behind, but still showed his class. Matteo Berrettini had to give up in four sets: 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 and 6-3.

Alcaraz won his first Grand Slam title at the US Open at the end of last year. He has traveled to Wimbledon with confidence; he recently won the Queen’s grass tournament. Number six in the world Holger Rune awaits in the quarterfinals. The twenty-year-old Dane won in four sets against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov: 3-6, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4) and 6-3.

Wimbledon sensation Eubanks is also in the quarterfinals. The 27-year-old American settled in a thriller with Stéfanos Tsitsipás, who is no less than 38 places higher in the world ranking (5 to 43). It became 3-6, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-4 and 6-4.

Eubanks played a supporting role in international tennis for a long time. This season he has suddenly taken a big step to the top. The more than 2 meter tall player reached the quarter-finals at the Miami tournament and is now doing the same on his debut at Wimbledon. So far he had never progressed beyond the second round at a Grand Slam tournament.

Eubanks will face Daniil Medvedev for a place in the semifinals. The Russian number three in the world saw his Czech opponent Jirí Lehecka give up in the eighth finals on Monday with an injury. Medvedev had won the first two sets 6-4 and 6-2.
