Dibu Martínez’s visit is all the rage in Bangladesh | The world champion goalkeeper, on a walk through one of the countries with the most fans in Argentina

The goalkeeper of the Argentine national team Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez caused great enthusiasm among the fans of Bangladesh, a country that he visited between Sunday and Monday to carry out promotional and protocol acts in his capacity as champion of the last World Cup in Qatar.

The Argentine, winner of the Golden Glove at the FIFA World Cup, interacted with hundreds of fans in various activities and met with the country’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, among other personalities.

During the hours he was in Dhaka, the capital where he arrived from Amsterdam, the Aston Villa footballer also shared a moment with Mashrafe Mortaza, cricket legend, the most popular sport in Bangladesh.

“The people here, with their unparalleled love, care and hospitality, have truly melted my heart. I look forward to my return to this beautiful country in the near future,” the goalkeeper wrote on his Instagram account.

The fanaticism of the public in that country for the Argentine National Team during the last World Cup toured the planet and was also reflected in Qatar itself, where the Bangladeshis make up one of the largest colonies of immigrants.

The Asians followed the matches of the “Scaloneta” gathered in large masses, around giant screens, and unleashed amazing celebrations at each success of the world champions.

As a result of this furor, the Argentine government decided last February to reopen its embassy in Bangladesh, more than 40 years after its closure, in an act headed by Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero. The official dependency in that place was put into operation in 1974 under the government of Juan Domingo Perón but years later it was closed by the military dictatorship led by Jorge Rafael Videla.

“Dibu” Martínez plans to travel further to Calcutta, in eastern India, where he will participate in various public events, including a visit to the stadium of one of Calcutta’s most historic clubs, Mohun Bagan.

The Argentine national team visited the cities of Dhaka and Calcutta during a friendly tour in 2011, in which Alejandro Sabella took over as technical director and Lionel Messi took over the captaincy on loan from Javier Mascherano. With a full stadium in both cities, the “Albicelestes” beat Venezuela in India and days later they prevailed over Nigeria in Bangladesh.
