Czech Beach Volleyball Players Withdraw from European Championships to Avoid Risk of Injury

“My injury is getting better, but it’s not yet in a state where I could afford to play a tough match,” Perušič told ČTK. “If we were to play the European Championships, it would only be for the sake of gaining some minimum number of points towards the World Cup. We calculated that we are already qualified. So we decided not to risk re-injury,” added the 28-year-old polar player.

Perušič injured his abdominal muscle at the King of the Court event in early July. Because of this, together with Schweiner, they already missed the Pro Tour Elite tournaments in Gstaad, where they were also supposed to defend the silver, and in Montreal.

The 21-year-old Trousil, like Perušič and Schweiner, belongs to the national training group led by the Italian Andrea Tomatis. In the last two seasons, he played with Jan Kryštof Oliva, with whom he appeared in the main competition of the elite world circuit tournament in Ostrava in May thanks to a wild card.

“It is a team that, if they play well, can go relatively far in the tournament. It will certainly be an interesting combination of David as a more experienced blocker with Tadeáš, who has improved a lot compared to last season and is performing very well this year,” said Perušič.

Three more Czech couples will perform in Vienna from Wednesday. In the men’s spider, Schweiner and Trousil will be joined by Jakub Šépka and Tomáš Semerád, among women Barbora Hermannová and Mariá Sára Štochlova and Miroslava Dunárová and Daniela Resová will compete. They replaced the originally qualified Markéta Nausch Sluková and Helena Havelková, who recently ended their cooperation.
