Cleared for the Court: Puerto Rico’s Jose Alvarado Ruled Out of FIBA World Cup Due to Injury

FIBA – Jose Alvarado has not been cleared by the Pelicans to play in the World Cup with Puerto Rico after he still has not recovered from a stress fracture in his tibia.

bad news for Puerto Ricowho will have to appear at the World Cup 2023 (August 25 – September 10) without its star player, Jose Alvarado (9.0 points, 3.0 assists, 2.3 rebounds, 1.1 steals average).

In question: this stress fracture in the right tibia, which forced him to miss the whole end of last season and which especially pushed the Pelicans to refuse him, as a precautionary measure, participation in the World Cup, because he is still not sufficiently recovered.

Obviously a heartbreak for Jose Alvarado, who was happy to realize his dream by defending the colors of Puerto Rico at the World Cup. As a reminder, “Los Gallos”

will be in pool B in Manila (Philippines) with Serbia, China and South Sudan. If they finish in one of the first two places, they will then cross with the group of Italy in the second round, to hope to join the 1/4 finals of the event.
