The Catalan takes off his crampons after 21 seasons as a professional at 36 years old.
It’s the end of a great career. Cesc Fàbregas (36 years old, 111 caps) announced this Saturday on his social networks the end of his history as a football player. After a final challenge in Italy in Como after leaving Monaco in 2022, the Catalan is ending 21 seasons of a rich career. The Barcelona-trained player delivered a lengthy message and career-review video to break the news. He won 16 titles during his career, in club or national team. The majority with Barça (6), including La Liga (2012/2013) or the Club World Cup and the European Super Cup (2011). However, he never lifted the Champions League, since he arrived just after the Blaugranas’ coronation in 2011. He was also English champion then with Chelsea (2015 and 2017) and won the Europa League with the Blues in 2019.
But his greatest title remains the World Cup won in South Africa in 2010 with La Roja. Fàbregas was part of the superb Spanish epic with the bonus of the two Euros (2008 and 2012) during which he was a major player.
Expected retraining
If Fàbregas leaves the pitch, he does not however leave the world of football since he will train. The idea was already well thought out, since by joining Côme he was joining a club in which he was going to officiate as a coach.
