Bryce Young Named Starting Quarterback for Carolina Panthers

It only took one practice for Bryce Young to convince the Carolina Panthers that he was the man for the job.

After the first practice of training camp, Frank Reich ruled that the 22-year-old would be his starting quarterback for his team’s first game in 2023.

“Yes, he’s our QB1,” the Panthers head coach simply said at a Wednesday press conference.

Young, who was the first ever player selected in the last NFL Draft, took all the reps with the first team. This automatically relegated veteran Andy Dalton to second.

In his last run in the NCAA, the University of Alabama Crimson Tide product had 3,328 passing yards and 32 touchdowns in 12 games.

The Panthers will play their first game of the regular season on September 10, visiting the Falcons in Atlanta. If Young avoids injury, he will be the first rookie quarterback to start the season for the Carolina club since Cam Newton in 2011.
