Annual Colloquium of Highest-Ranking French Judokas Held in Temple-sur-Lot Base

the essential All this week, the Temple-sur-Lot base has welcomed the highest-ranking French judokas, that is to say having between six and nine “in” on their belt. They were 95 participants to take part in this annual “colloquium of senior officers”.

Each year, the highest-ranking French judokas gather for their annual colloquium. And this year, it is the base of Temple-sur-Lot which has been chosen to welcome these fighters whose level goes from 6th to 9th dan. There are only nine people who have this last rank in France. Two of them were present at the colloquium: Serge Feist and Lionel Grossain.
In this gathering, where we come from all over France, we also found Norikazu Kawaishi, 7th dan, the son of the man who imported judo in France: Kenji Kawaishi.

A Japanese Olympic champion as a speaker

For a week, from Monday July 3 to Friday July 7, they meet for a very advanced training course, with very high level speakers, often former champions. Tuesday, July 4, the day of our report, it is Thierry Fabre, bronze medalist at the world championship in 2010 in the category less than 100 kg, who is in charge of a workshop.
The organizers also invited the Japanese Shinji Hosokawa, Olympic champion in Los Angeles in 1984 and world champion in 1985, “to lead training in attack techniques”, says Mohammed Zouarh, vice-president of the French Judo Federation.

Because this course is also very important for the validation of the 7th “dan”. Among the participants, there are two Lot-et-Garonnais, both 6th dan: Didier Cucchi, 64, from Villeneuve-sur-Lot; and Jean-Claude Bénézet, 75, from Foulayronnes. “In the 47, we are four senior officers in all. There is also Pierre Roudanes, 75, and Daniel Benoît, 82, who are 7th dan,” explains Jean-Claude Bénézet. “I have been 6th dan for 24 years and I will be able to pass my 7th. When I reached the 6th dan, the regulations of the French Federation obliged us to wait 25 years to pass the 7th. A few years ago, it went down to 13 years of waiting”.

Finally, a former doctor of the French judo team, Dr. Marc Bonnier, gave a short lecture to the trainees on concussions in judo. He also presented the “concussion protocols” which will be implemented in France during judo tournaments from the start of the school year in September 2023. He concludes: “In the event of a concussion, the judoka must be arrested for at least 20 days s he is 20 years old or younger, and between 7 and 10 days if he is over 20 years old. »
