Ana Sofía Hernández Jeon: A Rising Star in Archery, Winning International Victories for Mexico

The woman from Jalisco is making her way in this discipline, where at a collective level she has managed to win several international victories

Archery is not exempt from generational change, and in this case Ana Sofía Hernández Jeon from Jalisco is currently one of the new faces in the Mexican National Team in this discipline.

Recently Ana Sofía won the team gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador, fair that was his first major international event with the tricolor team.

“I never thought I would reach a level like this, but being in the team representing Mexico, the truth is that it is a different experience from the ones I had already had. I don’t know how to explain it, it was very exciting to represent the country in the Central American Games and bring us a gold medal.

“I would have liked to give a little more individually, but even so I tried to give what I could and in the end we managed to break the Central American record, we shot very well and with that I was satisfied”, she commented.

Regarding her personal performance, Ana Sofía fell in the quarterfinals in San Salvador against the also Mexican Andrea Becerra, and that is why he now has the pending account of achieving an individual medal in the next international jousts in which he will participate.

“This year has been my first time in Cups, Central Americans and this coming World Cup, and personally I have only won team medals, so my goal is to win an individual medal, to be in the first three solo and do my best to exceed that goal,” he warned.

Regarding her upcoming participations, Ana Sofía acknowledged that she would like to qualify for the Pan American Games that will take place this year in Santiago de Chile, but for now she has her sights set on the World Cup in Germany, which she will start in a little less than two weeks.

“Unfortunately our modality is not Olympic, the compound does not enter the Games, so the highest level we aspire to is a World Cup, which in fact is yet to come, is in Berlin and we are a week and a half away from leaving and I would like to have good results in this World Cup. I would also like to reach the Pan American Games very much, but hopefully one day the compound will enter the Olympic Games ”, he acknowledged.

At the moment the qualifying process for the Pan American Games has not yet been clarified for archery, this despite the fact that Santiago will receive the best athletes from the continent between October and November of this year.

Committed to her country and team

Despite the fact that she is barely 20 years old, Ana Sofía is aware of the commitment she has to represent her country in international fairs, and more so when she is among the new promises of our country in her discipline.

“I feel it as a great responsibility because personally I don’t think I can do what I want just for being in the National Team. Obviously, if you are willing to stay in the National Team, it is because you are also willing to give your best in the competitions and take your country to the top, not just arrive, introduce yourself and that’s it. I do consider it a great responsibility to represent my team, my country and my sport. Yes, it is a big job that we have to be the best in the country, ”he concluded.

It was together with Andrea Becerra and Dafne Quintero that Ana Sofía Hernández managed to win the team gold medal in San Salvador 2023, a fair that marked a watershed for this young athlete who seeks to become a benchmark within her discipline.
