Amelie, who are you?
« I have dual French and Swiss nationality. I started judo in Switzerland at the age of 8 and competitions at 15. In Switzerland, the categories are not the same as in France because from 63 kg there are no more categories. I found myself fighting with 100 kg girls, it was complicated. In 2009 on the advice of a trainer from Morteau in the Doubs, I registered in France. I obtained a title of champion of Doubs then of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. It was a real revelation and from there I evolved a lot ».
How did you come to the Salinois club?
« I was part of a music group in Switzerland and during a carnival I met François, my future companion who played with the Biou’z d’Arbois. After two years of going back and forth between Arbois and La Chaux de Fonds, I decided to join my companion at his home in Arbois. He introduced me to the treasurer of Biou’z who also happened to be treasurer of the Salins judo club. One thing leading to another, she brought me to Salins where I started giving judo lessons to children. It got me back on track. In the process I passed and obtained the 2nd dan black belt and I returned to the competition. At the end of 2019, beginning of 2020, I selected myself for the European championships which were canceled due to covid. »
But Amélie is not discouraged for all that; she participated in the various French championships 2022-2023 and won, among other things, a silver medal. Her victories qualified her for the European Championships in Slovenia from where she returned with the bronze medal in the veterans category.
Happy, she admits this year I had a click and I said to myself go let’s go until the end ».
And now the world championships?
« This medal opens the doors for me to the world championships in October in Abu-Dhabi. Unfortunately, the date is known recently and I will not be available since my wedding with François is scheduled two days before. But it’s only a postponement, next year, I’ll set off again, with one objective: the World Championships. I will give myself the means to get there. As my little judokas tell me: you have the bronze, the silver, now you need the gold ».
