Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina tends to take risks
Three players come to mind when you ask: With the score 8-8 in the match tiebreak of the fifth set in a third-round match at Wimbledon, who could come up with the idea of serving from below? The first candidate, Nick Kyrgios, is not represented at Wimbledon this year.
Aspirant number two, Alexander Bublik, still has the chance to create a playful monument of this kind for himself. Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina actually went into the Bütt. He thought it was a strong tactical move to forgo a conventional serve against the very agile Holger Rune. A few moments later, the Dane was lying on his back on the floor and could hardly believe his entry into the round of 16.
Rune accepts the offer with thanks
Now Davidovich-Fokina’s explanation for the forearm serve differed depending on the language: For the international, English-speaking press, the version was that he would do it again.
However, keen followers of the Spanish language say, “I wet my pants and I didn’t want to play that point.” Rune gladly accepted the offer. Especially since his opponent would have served really well before that.
