Xuefei Qi Clinches Victory at European Games Despite Injury Scare

European Games in Tarnow (Poland)

Received 3/3! Xuefei Qi (N.52 in the world) won her group stage at the European Games by ending with a third victory (21-19, 24-22) against the Irish Rachael Darragh (N.87), seen in the ranks of Penguins in the Rade Brest a few seasons ago. At the start of the second (4-2), the triple French champion gave her fans a big scare by locking her ankle. After a medical procedure, Xuefei Qi gritted her teeth for a hell of a comeback – she trailed 12-19! – and avoid a third set which would have been perilous.

We can only hope that the medical staff of the Blues can get her back on her two feet after a good night since she will be back on the field on Thursday for the round of 16 of these European championships for the bad guys.

She will be opposed to the Estonian Kristin Kuuba (N.48), whom she has always beaten in four duels. If successful, she would have a very good chance of finding a certain Carolina Marin (N.6), 2016 Olympic champion, three-time world champion and four-time continental champion (0-5 in their duels) in the quarter-finals.

Gicquel and Delrue, objective 3/3

In mixed, Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue (N.8) will play their third and last group match on Thursday against the Irish Magee – Rian (N.117), whom they have never played before. With two victories, the Breton and the Ile-de-France are already guaranteed to finish in the top two and therefore qualify for the quarter-finals. By finishing first, they would normally afford a more affordable match.
