Djokovic, behind Federer’s record

When Federer won his eighth Wimbledon crown, with a resounding three-set victory against Croatian Marin Cilic in the 2017 final, Nole had barely three tournament titles in his possession, those of 2011, beating Rafael Nadal in the clash decisive, and 2014 and 2015, both with victories against the Swiss. In the following seasons, the Serbian became very strong on the London grass.

Djokovic was crowned in the last four editions played. In 2018, he defeated South African Kevin Anderson in three sets. The following year, he prevailed 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6 and 13-12 (7-3) in an epic battle of four hours and 57 minutes before Federer, who entered the great books of world tennis. Because of the level that the two played, but also because it was the longest final in the history of the tournament and the last that the Swiss, who retired last year, would play in a Grand Slam.

After the cancellation of 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, Djokovic once again repeated the consecutive celebrations by beating the Italian Matteo Berrettini in 2021 and in 2022 – the year in which the tournament did not distribute points due to the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian players – the Australian Nick Kyrgios. Thus, he brought his personal harvest to seven crowns.

In this edition, and at 36 years old, he will look for the eighth, to be tied with Federer in first place on the list of English Grand Slam champions.
