When La Creuse Became the Capital of France for Badminton Championships

These championships took place in the form of a team tournament in girls’ and boys’ singles, girl’s and boys’ doubles and mixed doubles in a so-called “Italian” formula where the first team to reach 100 points wins.

The categories Establishments (unclassified schoolchildren), Shared Sport (schoolchildren with disabilities) and Excellence (classified schoolchildren) filled the gymnasiums and triggered a lot of encouragement from the supporters.

Mylène Faye, the director of the UNSS departmental service of Creuse, was over the moon:

It is a great joy for a great challenge perfectly met! The organizing team was exceptional with teachers, volunteers, people from the Badminton Club Guérétois, young people from the local Mission and young UNSS organizers.

Each delegation had to present, in addition to the players, a young official and a young coach. “Adult coaches are not allowed to intervene during matches and young referees have been trained throughout the year by PE teachers. It is a difficult task to referee, but the young people are doing admirably and there are very few disputes”. The values of the UNSS were displayed: singing La Marseillaise and reading the Charter. “We train the citizens of today and tomorrow! “.

It was the last of Mylène Faye in our department: “I am leaving happy, on this great success, but inevitably a little sad to leave Creuse where I have become attached. I will take over the departmental management of the academic service and we will form a team in the three departments of the former Limousin. I know that here, I have something to lean on. I want to make our academy shine! “.
