What does a football week in the capital look like next season?

plays Sunday lunchtime Hertha BSC in the 2nd league in the Olympic Stadium against Wehen Wiesbaden, Elversberg or Paderborn.

Tuesday evening then kicks Union in the same place against Real Marid, Barcelona or Manchester City in the Champions League

It is now almost certain that the Köpenicker will move to the competitor’s huge stadium for the premier class games – as in the Conference League 2021.

Union boss Dirk Zingler (58): “At the moment, the issues that we are not playing the Champions League in our stadium are intensifying.”

The local Alte Försterei is not only small (22,012 seats) and has few seats, Uefa requirements (media, VIP) would also reduce the capacity.

Advantage of the move: Finally, almost all of the now around 56,000 members could watch a Union game live on site! The capacity of the Olympic Stadium: 74,475 seats.

After the renovation, the An der Alten Försterei stadium will have a capacity of around 37,700 (previously 22,012). The original plans for this were presented in 2017. The Corona crisis and problems with the traffic concept caused the delay. In November, Zingler said that the expansion of the Alte Försterei would not begin until 2024 at the earliest.

Extensive construction work around the stadium will begin as early as the end of June. Among other things, a new professional training center, a multi-storey car park and a clubhouse will be built. All work is scheduled to be completed by June 2026.
