UEFA changes the name of the C4 and renames it “Conference League”

UEFA has renamed its third European club competition, the Europa Conference League or C4 launched in 2021-2022, to the “Conference League” from 2024, it announced in a press release on Wednesday June 28. Intended to widen access to European evenings to small footballing countries excluded from the prestigious Champions League, UEFA explains that this change of name must ” allow it to continue its development as a stand-alone competition “while the Europa League or C3 is also played on Thursday evenings. This decision will take effect from the 2024-2025 season, i.e. during the next commercial cycle of European competitions, which will also mark their transition to a mini-league system.
